Hollywood star Ali MacGraw retired from acting & now lives in a tiny town where people respect her privacy

Ali MacGraw’s journey is one of beauty, resilience, and reinvention. Once a Hollywood icon, she captured hearts with her stunning looks and memorable performances. But rather than cling to stardom, Ali chose a quieter life of purpose and reflection. Now 84, she lives peacefully in a small New Mexico town, radiating strength and grace.

Born in 1939 in Pound Ridge, New York, Ali grew up in modest circumstances. Her artistic parents struggled financially, and her father’s traumatic past created a tense household. Despite the challenges, Ali’s creative spirit flourished, and after attending Wellesley College, she launched a career in fashion.

Starting at Harper’s Bazaar, she soon transitioned into modeling. Her breakthrough came in the 1969 film Goodbye, Columbus, followed by her iconic role in Love Story, which brought her international fame and an Oscar nomination.

In 1969, Ali married Paramount producer Robert Evans, with whom she had a son, Josh. But her real-life romance with Steve McQueen, sparked on the set of The Getaway, led to a turbulent marriage. She stepped back from acting to support McQueen, but the marriage ended in 1978.

After personal struggles and a stay at the Betty Ford Clinic, Ali emerged with new purpose. Losing her Malibu home to wildfire in 1993, she moved to New Mexico, dedicating herself to community work and animal rights.

Today, Ali remains close to her son and grandson. Through fame, heartbreak, and healing, she continues to inspire with a life defined by grace, authenticity, and quiet strength.

Our neighbor put a note on our car: “One car per house!” Soon afterward, she came over herself. I opened the door to greet her. She was in a pastel pink cardigan, a matching headband, and white capri pants. “Our HOA—very friendly, but firm—has rules: only one car per household in the driveway,” she stated. I blinked. “One car?” “Yes,” she answered more sternly. “No exceptions. It keeps us all orderly.” Jack looked at her. “Both our cars fit on the driveway, we’re not on the street.” “Still, two cars isn’t allowed. One house, one driveway, one car. The rule is for everyone,” she said with a tilt of her head. She left. We ignored her warning. Three days later, both of our cars had been towed. She stood outside, smiling widely. ME: “Wow!
