7 Unexpected Items You Can Safely Wash in Your Machine

In today’s busy world, washing machines are essential for cleaning clothes and household items. Many people know they can wash fabric like shirts and towels, but there are several unexpected items that are safe to clean in your washer, saving time and extending their lifespan.

Stuffed animals and plush toys can harbor dirt and germs. Check labels first; if washable, place them in a laundry bag and use a gentle, cold water cycle. To freshen them, add mild detergent and consider a disinfectant rinse.

Pillows and pillow inserts made of synthetic fibers are usually washable. Remove cases separately and wash the inserts on a gentle cycle. Dry thoroughly, ideally with dryer balls, to maintain shape and fluffiness.

Hats, especially baseball caps, can be washed in a machine by placing them in a pillowcase or laundry bag on a gentle, cold cycle. Reshape while damp and air dry. Delicate hats may be better spot cleaned.

Comforters and duvet covers are designed for washing. Use a large-capacity washer on a gentle cycle with cold water. Add tennis balls during drying to help maintain loft, and dry thoroughly to prevent mold.

Bathroom and kitchen mats, especially microfiber or non-slip types, can often be washed. Check labels for care instructions. Wash with similar items and dry completely to avoid mold.

Reusable shopping bags, often made of cotton or polyester, can be cleaned regularly. Turn inside out, wash on a warm or cold cycle, and air or tumble dry on low. Regular cleaning keeps them fresh and durable.

Pet accessories and fabric toys should be washed to keep them hygienic. Remove any electronics or non-washable parts, use a gentle cycle with pet-safe detergent, and dry thoroughly.

Always check care labels, use gentle cycles for fragile items, and avoid high heat unless specified. Proper drying prevents mold and keeps items in good condition.

Expanding your laundry routine to include these items is eco-friendly and cost-saving. Following proper care tips helps keep your belongings clean and lasts longer. When unsure, hand washing or checking manufacturer guidelines is safest.
